Brewed this up as my first lager. It has been years and years since I had a commercial Noche Buena beer, so I can't compare it to the "real one." However, this is a clean, malty, amber/brown German-style lager. Some hops there, especially in the finish - nice. If you want a lager with an easy drinking character and a bit of hops on the palate, this kit would be worth a try.
I brewed this as an ale using White Labs Kolsch yeast. It turned out beautiful with a nice balance of hops & malt great dark amber color and tasted pretty much as I remember Noche Buena. I usually try a compare my brews to the one I cloned and figured since I live about 6 miles from the border, I'd have no trouble getting a 12 pack....WRONG...for some reason this year there was none to be found! I gave this out as Christmas presents to family & friends and everyone loved it...so I guess I'll have to wait until next year to do my blind taste test.
