I'd been craving an Odell Cutthroat Porter but there was none to be found anywhere. As it turns out, it was discontinued by Odell. Fast forward a few months and the craving came back hard. I found this clone and brewed it and was blown away. I fermented with a packet of US-05 and had no complaints. This was my first "brew it because you can't find it anywhere" beer and I'm pretty happy. It'll definitely make the regular rotation.
I used to live in Nebraska near the Colorado border, and Cutthroat Porter became one of my all-time favorites the very first time I tried it. I moved to Texas almost two years ago, and have had to do without since O'dell doesn't ship here. I brewed the extract version of this recipe, and it turned out GREAT. It's not exactly the same as the original. It's got the right flavor and color, but the flavors aren't quite as bold as I remember them. That might have to do with the fact that I did the extract, or maybe it doesn't have anything to do with that. In any case, this one is close enough for me, and is *very* drinkable. Will be keeping it in constant rotation.
This is the closest tasting clone of any beer I have brewed to date. All grain brew.
