I did the mini mash. The beer is light bodied but dark in color. It has a very nice roasted flavor and is wonderful out of the keg. The bitterness from the dark malts are a refreshing change from the American / west coast hop bitterness which we've all grown accustomed to from US microbrews. I brewed this about a month ago and I've been drinking it for a week, it's probably the best "young" beer I've made so far. Nice as a session beer or as accompaniment to dinner. I'm thinking about making this my house brew and brewing at least one batch a month. I look forward to brewing the all grain soon.
I wanted to try this recipe because there aren't really any US commercial examples to try, it's a 50 cent brew, and based on the BJCP guidelines it sounded worth a try. Liked it, didn't love it. Prefer the AHS Southern Brown to the Mild because it has more flavor. It's a very drinkable light-in-character ale with some color.
