Once upon a time this fellow named Jack managed to trap the Devil in a tree. Jack would not let the Devil down until the Devil swore to never take Jack's soul. After a long life as a rascal, Jack finally breathed his final breath. With hat in hand, Jack stood at Heaven's gate pleading for forgiveness only to be laughed at and sent away, "HA! Jack, you are a cheat, a liar, and a filthy thief. Take your chances with the Devil if you will!" But the Devil only laughed at Jack as well. "You'll find no welcome here Jack. I promised to never take your soul. Hit the road Jack!" So Jack was doomed to roam the earth for all eternity. To light his way Jack carved an evil face into a pumpkin. Folks that saw strange eerie lights at night would say, "There goes Jack O'Lantern". And so we bring you Jack O'Lantern Porter.

The optional pumpkin is not provided with the recipe. It must be purchased separately.
Pumpkin preparation: cut enough small pumpkins into 1 inch cubes to yield 3 - 4 lb. Place the pumpkin on a cooking pan and cook in the oven at 350 F for 30 min or until softened. If pumpkin in unavailable, 3 - 4 lb of canned pumpkin (non-spiced) may be used instead. The pumpkin is added with the grains during mashing.
