Wasn't bad, but nothing ground breaking

I purchased this because of the excellent marketing for this beer. It's claim stated that this kit would not last, so I assumed that this was the be-all, end-all of DIPA. This was my first Austin kit, and I was very impressed with what you get in the kit. They are even cool enough to include some yeast nutrient and whirlfloc (you pay for it though). I already had these ingredients on hand, so including it was a bit unnecessary and I wish there was an option to exclude it if you already have it. I brewed according to the directions and got fermentation within 6 hours of pitching due to my yeast starter. I used a 6 gallon carboy with a blow off tube and had absolutely no problem with fermentation. The beer is pretty good. It has a very fruity/tropical nose and drinks very sweet and fruity with an alcohol sting. The hop flavor was a little weak and succumbed to the maltiness, but that's understandable when using magnum, which have a lower AA than typical bittering hops. This was the first time using corn sugar as a body/alcohol booster (came with the kit) and I feel that that contributed to a "fake" element to the beer. Needless to say, I like the beer, but it is not something I'd say was outstanding and crave it and I probably wouldn't order it again. For the price, I don't think it was worth it. Here is a few beers that I enjoy, if you like these beers, you might feel the same way as I do: Heady Topper, Swish, Res and Hi-Res, Space Cake, Hop Juice, Ruination

Liquid heaven best describes this beer. After nine days, I sampled this between the transfer from primary to secondary and was amazed. The aroma was incredible. After five more days, the taste from secondary to keg was even better. Now the hop presence was very pronounced and smooth. Now fully force-carbonated/conditioned for 10-days, this brew is my stand alone favorite. Although I know it will only get better with age, my liver cannot wait and this needs to be enjoyed ASAP! I highly recommend this beer

This beer was one of my first to keg. WOW! This beer was my best yet. It has converted some of my friends to start homebrewing. I used the alcohol boost with it and it was a real butt kicker! GREAT DIPA -coachG

I brewed the mini-mash last night and it made the entire house smell like hops, very good smell if I don't say myself. Followed the recipe other than adding the adding 1% ABV boost and ended up with an 1.1 original gravity; it will defiantly end up being a sipping beer. I also double pitched (Wyeast American) as recommended. Before I bought the kit I read the comments and seen how every suggesting to use a blow of hose. I thought the reason everyone had to use blow off hose was because they were using 6.5 gallon carboys. Thus I felt I didn't need to use mine because I am brewing in a 7.5 gallon glass carboy. Since I have got this carboy I have never had to use a blow off hose, that wasn't the case this time. When I got up this morning my airlock was foaming from the air vents. I should have listened everyone else comments and went with the blow off. I can't wait to taste this batch!!!

I also had some explosive fermentation with this brew. I strongly recommend that you setup up a blow off as soon as you put this in primary. Mine has only been in bottles 2.5 weeks and it is an absolutely glorious IPA. I'm a hophead so this is one of my favorites. If you can't handle heavy IBU brews along with heavy hop aroma then this isn't the recipe for you. I think I'll order it again right now :)
