As a longtime homebrewer, I am very happy with this recipe. Based on the other reviews and the apparent popularity of this recipe, it lived up to my expectations. I will definitely make this one again someday.
Brewed this for my sister (she's a big 1554 fan). Currently in a secondary. Judging by the taste from my hydrometer sample tube, this is gonna be a great clone. Very nice color too. Will leave another comment when finished. Used the White Labs Southern German Lager 838 yeast.
Not a dead on clone, but an excellent beer. Everyone likes it a lot. I received Coriander instead of Paradise Seeds so that might have made a difference. Plan on making this again to find out. Again, excellent beer.
I just tapped a keg of this that I made 3 months ago (all grain + dry lager yeast). It is decent, but not what I was expecting. Does not really taste like the New Belgium Schwarzbier; I think you really have to lager to produce that sort of flavor. If you can't lager then this may be the closest you can come, but I'd rather just have a porter.
My wife said this is the best clone I \'ve ever made and she can\'t wait for me to make it again. Let it mature and it tastes as smooth as the real thing.
