I brewed the extract kit as a lager with the S23 dry yeast to take to Oktoberfest. Most of the reviews here are older and they brewed it as an ale. I followed the instructions to lager for primary and transferred to a keg to secondary for 2 1/2 months in my beer fridge. I did a comparison with a bottle of Sam Adams Oktoberfest and it came it out darker than the original and it had a little more flavor than the original. Everyone that did a side by side comparison liked mine better. This definitely will be one of the two batches that I usually make for Oktoberfest.
Brewed it as an ale. Turned out a lot darker and more flavorful than SA. Tasted it side-by-side at a party and everyone agreed the clone was better than the original. Despite not being the same, I will probably brew this again for next year.
Brewed as a ale WOW after 7 weeks this stuff is GOOD even those who don't drink beer tasted and ask for a little more. I am Happy HAPPY HAPPY! Will do again.
Although I brewed this as an ale, this was another great clone. Have done other Oktoberfest beers and this is probably the best.
A very good clone of a very good and popular beer.
