I'm very proud to be the first one to review this excellent kit from Austin Homebrew. I brewed this back in March and finally tonight (9-10-10), I was able to tap it to sample the finish product. Absolutely fantastic. I compared it next to a Spaten Octoberfest and it was very similiar, but the AHS kit had a bit more alcohol bite and malt taste. I brewed this at 52 degrees for four weeks and then lagered at 34 degrees from April to September. I did sub the suggested yeasts for the Saflager W34/70 and and I'm happy I did. This my go to lager yeast and for this beer it did a most excellent job.
This beer is fantastic! I brewed it a little later in the year than I wanted to but it still tastes great. I brewed this in June and lagered it until late September. I just kegged it prior to the weekend and it is really good. It has a solid creamy foamy head and a very good malt flavor that you would expect with a traditional Oktoberfest style beer. This one won't be on tap long. Especially if I keep drinking it out of giant Oktoberfest steins.
