The optional pumpkin is not provided with the recipe. It must be purchased separately.
Pumpkin preparation: cut enough small pumpkins into 1 inch cubes to yield 3 - 4 lb. Place the pumpkin on a cooking pan and cook in the oven at 350 F for 30 min or until softened. If pumpkin in unavailable, 3 - 4 lb of canned pumpkin (non-spiced) may be used instead. The pumpkin is added with the grains during mashing.

Ok spiced ale, was muddy in color and pumpkin didn't add anything to the beer except for hassle. I preferred the Brewer's Best Pumpkin Spice Porter. This one is lighter in color and milder in spice, more of a daily drinker amount of spice than the more spiced BB porter. Used 5 lbs of roasted pumpkin; you will want to strain it when going to your primary as it left a good deal of debris even when using my Boil+Mash which has a grain strainer which meant I threw a bit of wort away lowering OG. Suggest not using any pumpkin as I didn't find any pumpkin notes. If you do use pumpkin, I suggest using canned pumpkin which should reduce debris and adding some darker grains to hide the muddy brownness. Stats: Milled grain myself; used 5 lbs roasted pumpkin chunks; used S04 yeast; strained to primary; used whirlflok; OG 1.045 (added some sugar to boost it up to OG ?), FG 1.005.
I have run into this problem before with you. The product is good but you are not putting enough crush on the grain. Most of the husks were not touched by your grain mill. Since I do not have a grain mill I was stuck with what you sent. My efficiency is normally 80% +/- and could only get 65% from the unmilled grain. Brewed all grain double batch. Added approx. 4 lbs of cooked pumpkin. Did not add spice packet to beer, Use it as an option to rim glass prior to drinking. Very happy with this.
